Jonathan first told his father that he wanted to become a writer when he was 10 years old after completing a handwritten story called, The Planet Gozo. Of course, he cycled through many different answers to the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up,” but eventually he realized that he wasn’t smart enough to be an astronaut and that massage therapists didn’t always rub down sexy ladies.
Jonathan grew up in Tennessee, Indiana, and Colorado. After getting married to Amanda at the barely pubescent age of 21 and finishing his undergrad at Indiana University, the Degler noobs sold most of their belongings and moved to Thailand. On second thought, Jon might have saved most of his actual maturity for adulthood, so one could say he “grew up” in Thailand.
After a couple years of work and tedious language learning, the Deglers adopted a sweet little girl, Olive, and a year or so after that, Amanda gave birth to Desmond Max, or D-Max for short. They’re both loud, disruptive, super cute, and generally sassy clones of his lovely and talented wife.
In addition to writing gory, gross, and disturbing fiction, Jon also enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, video games, camping, pickling, smoking pipes, and drinking trashy Thai beer.
